Red Lipstick & Champagne Dreams: October 2015

Soft Makeup for the Fall/Winter

I feel like this season the main trend that is being shown for makeup is the super smokey eye or the really dark and bold lip. And I get it...we wait all year round to able to wear lipsticks as dark as some of our souls (haha just kidding) but I wanted to do something different this time, and soften up my look for the cold weather.

My inspiration came from all of the amazingly beautiful colors that we see during the fall months. Living in MN I'm blessed enough to see all of the seasons change and fall is one of my absolute favorites. I love to see all of the different colors around.

Outre Annie Restyled

Hello friends, today I wanted to stop by and share with you how I restyle my Annie half wig from Outre. Don't you just hate it when your favorite hair or unit comes to an end?! Well I do. And if you find a bomb unit that is synthetic you know that it won't last long.

Annie has to be one of my all time favorite purchases for my hair and I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. Watch the video bellow to see how I saved this unit

Purple Glitter | Dramatic Fall Makeup

Are you tired of all of the fall makeup looks yet? No? Me either. This is the time where my favorite trends come alive and new ones are created. For sure I LOVE wearing darker lips and even though I'm not one to care about when it's appropriate to wear dark lipsticks it does fit better with this weather, The cold air just goes well with dark dramatic makeup (and a black leather jacket to complete the badass effect)

Today I was feeling inspired and I decided to do a more glam fall makeup look. I used purples because in my opinion purples are perfect for brown eyes and women of color. And you just can't go wrong with a purple ombre lip (right?!)

To change it up a little bit I used some glitter. WARNING: It is not recommended that you use glitter near your eyes. It can irritate them if it falls in there or cause damage. So if you do decide to use glitter PLEASE be very careful!!!!

When I use glitter, I use duo lash glue to adhere it to my skin. This prevents the glitter from getting all over the place or falling in my eyes. I used a small angled brush that I didn't mind losing if it got ruined. I applied a small amount of glue to it and applied the glue to my lid, and before the glue dried I dipped the same brush into some glitter and applied the purple glitter over the glue. You have to be quick with it because the glue dries fast but you have to also be careful and precise.

Since the eyes were a little more dramatic and I also wanted to add a bold lip I decided to add a light eye liner to my waterline. By using a light pencil you open up your eyes and it helps to soften the look as well. You could also use a white eye liner but in my opinion white eye liners makes the look bolder and it can be a little more harsh. But it all depends on the look you are going for.

To create the ombre lip, I started with the darker color which was Cyber from MAC, and only applied it as an outline to my lips leaving the center empty. In the center I applied 3 Witches from Pretty Zombie Cosmetics (you can see it in all its glory with a review HERE)

There you have it folks. A dramatic purple makeup look with a sprinkle of glitter to brighten up your day!

THE PERFECT LOOK FOR FALL WITH MAYBELLINE

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #FalsiesPushUpDrama #CollectiveBias

On my day to day life I like to keep my makeup as simple as possible. I want to look like I took a while getting ready but I don't want to put in all that time (let's be honest who really does?). And to me personally playing up our eye lashes is just as important as any other feature!

I'm a false lash fanatic. I love them!!! And when I do my makeup I always feel the need to wear some. Mostly because my natural lashes are really not all that on their own. And applying lashes can sometimes be really frustrating, even for someone like me who does it often.

With all of that being said I'm always on the lookout for a good mascara that will give my natural lashes the fullness and length of false lashes. And I was able to pick up Maybelline's new  The Falsie Push Up Drama at Wallmart and it did just that for me!

THE FALSIES PUSH UP DRAMA MASCARA ALONG WITH FALSE LASHES

The Falsie Push Up Drama mascara gives my lashes just a much volume and length as the false lashes did but without the hassle. And to be completely honest my eyes are a little sensitive so every now and then the lash glue can really irritate and burn my skin, so having a mascara that can give me the same results is a must for me.

For today's look I'm using Maybelline's Blushed Nudes Palette. It has some great nudes that allows you to create looks that are soft or a little more on the smokey side. I love that it's a smaller palette but it has every color that you'd need. I'm also so in love with the packaging!!!

On my brows I'm doing something a little different. I'm using the Brow Precise Shaping Pencil. What I really like about this pencil is that it has given me the same precision as when I use a gel and it stays on really well.

Here is what I used for this look:

3 MAC FALL LIPSTICK FAVORITES FOR WOMEN OF COLOR

Fall is here and what better way to bring in one of my favorite seasons than wearing beautiful lipsticks. One thing that I hear often from women of color is that they are afraid of color. As black women we are afraid to step outside of our comfort zones when it comes to makeup. In my humble opinion women of color can wear literally anything and look good! Off course some colors might have to be tweaked a little but they still work nonetheless.

Today I thought I would show you some of my favorite colors for this fall season. They work great for women of color but these are also great shades for everyone really! All three shades are from MAC. I know there are a ton of options when you step into a MAC store or counter, so I thought I would share three lipstick shades that are in trend for fall '15.
